What if I told you there is good news for home owners that are in danger of losing their house? I am seeing more resources being added everyday for those scared folks losing their piece of “the American Dream”. We all have a big stake in this mortgage meltdown. For every person or family that loses their security and safety of “home, sweet home”, we all lose a little bit of our own confidence in our world. The security of believing in the big banking industry, the safety of knowing that all businesses involved in the mortgage fiasco should have known better, the confidence in our governing bodies to look out for our welfare. The mortgage industry should be held at a higher level because they are dealing with the most fundamental element of our very core as a people-our families, our children. I shudder to imagine the trauma that this inflicts upon our littlest casualties in this banking battleground. It is so hard for adults to cope with being literally yanked from their homes. What is this doing to our future generation? Will they be scarred for life and will they ever feel secure? Will any of us feel safe again?
I have taken a big interest in this growing problem in the good old U.S.A. And I do not mind telling you that I am appalled that the banking and mortgage industry cared so little for the damage they were inflicting on too many of us. I wish all companies and businesses had to be held to the highest standards just like the Doctors Pledge. To “DO NO HARM”! What a different society and business atmosphere we would have if we all decide to adopt the ” Hippocratic Oath”. I can only dream of a day that we all say these three simple little words, I pledge to “Do No Harm”. It would answer all the big questions about injustice, crime, poverty, cruelty.
I guess it starts slowly, with each person awaking to the realization that I can make a difference. At least a little difference in my own little world. If enough people take a good long look at how they impact the world around them and conscientiously decide to change their thoughts, attitudes and actions, it could catch on like a trend. It would be the cool thing, to”Do No Harm”. Thousands upon thousands of young people could start a new ideal, a new movement. Like the hippies in my era, Peace and Love, Baby. Only even more important, because it would be in us, not just around us.
I started this article with a completely different title, a different theme in mind. Maybe it’s because the election is just around the corner and I am feeling uncertain of the future myself. What will happen in this election? What “changes”, which seems to be the buzz word today, are we all in for after November 4? I, for one would like to never see another homeless child, murdered or maimed man, or abused and disrespected woman. I was raised by two God fearing, law abiding, strong supporters of the Republican Party. Our whole family were good folks who did the best we could to “Do No Harm”. But is that enough? If I only worry about not being harmful to myself and others, what am I doing to reach out and “Do Some Good”?
I wanted to talk about my two companies by putting a new and possibly interesting spin to the article. How one of my businesses could help put money back in the pockets of companies by auditing utility invoices. The other one helps folks caught in the mortgage mess by auditing homeowner’s loans. It’s funny how my fingers on this keyboard seemed to take on a life of their own. I just wanted to get more business. This article seemingly sprang up out of no where. But I guess that is not possible, these thoughts were inside me somewhere, asking to be released. Kinda like an author’s exorcism. My business can wait as I explore some new found ideas.
No longer do I want only to “Do No Harm”. Now I need to take a stronger stand and pledge these three new and different words “Do Some Good”. What a wonderful world it would be if more of us would join me and “Do Some Good”.
When I started this article I was comfortable with my family’s beliefs in the Republican Party. I have only voted a straight Republican ticket for almost 40 years. Just like my family, I believed in the ideas of less involvement by government. They are like the “Do No Harm” political party. I am absolutely stunned by the realization that the Democratic Party is like the “Do Some Good” political party. This comes as a new realization to me. I am even more than shocked that I am now putting this next mind opening, eye popping sentence down on the proverbial paper:
I started this seemingly simple writing exercise being a Staunch Republican, and left becoming a Proud Democrat 870 words later. Wow, am I glad I never did not get around to mailing my absentee voter’s ballad yet!
